"Voluntary compulsory action"
A visual curatorial project
Attila Hazhlinsky ⁄ Danylo Kovach
For the first time, the presentation of ‘Voluntary - Compulsory Action’ took place in Uzhhorod (in the informal, non-profit gallery ‘Corridor’, which has been existing for over 20 years).
‘Voluntary-Compulsory Action’
The participants were selected voluntarily.
A dialogue was held with them, discussions and meetings were held, and further/immediate actions were agreed upon.
Everything remains as it was, it is the content of the space.
The list of participants does not change.
This time, the participants do not know about the second part of the exhibition ‘Voluntary - Compulsory Action’, which is why there is no dialogue in the context of the exhibition for them, they respond to the message sent to them. Without warning them in the exposition of the recorded dialogue, the exhibition is transformed to zero content, all the main details become secondary, that is, they do not have a task, now ‘voluntary-compulsory action’ is not only the name and concept of the project, but a situation, first of all, in which the participants reflect on this thesis, not us.
‘Voluntary - compulsory action’ can be anything and reflects anywhere, with anyone, its carrier is determined by time, we are only objects of projection, the shown is an attempt to reproduce our words.
Time becomes an answer to a question, forms new questions. Everything begins and ends.
It goes round and round again.
The thesis becomes an object; the participants, as the starting point of the presented object, become a mediator between the previous action and the present one.
This is another opportunity for the participants to reflect on their projects, to draw a certain conclusion about each project and each participant personally.
Dialogue.
Are you ready to take part in the Voluntary Coercive Action? Have you ever experienced similar events related to this?
The very definition of ‘voluntary-compulsory action’ has a dual character.
The dialogue in the context of ‘voluntary-compulsory action’ is initially global and individual for each of the participants.
‘ - Contradictory internal form of a question, an assertion?
A hopeless situation/no alternative?’
The situationality of each dialogue reinforces the topic and context (participants/cooperation and is the main content of the dialogue).
The voluntary-compulsory action in the dialogue itself is a familiar situation for the participants.
One of the main forms of communication in post-industrial society is online. The global informative space (cyberspace) is the language of modern communication.
The project was exhibited at the Mystetskyi Arsenal curated by Ilya Zabolotny
